Another week

Posted by [email protected] on February 24, 2013 at 11:10 PM Comments comments (0)

So a few days ago, I got a call asking if I could work at the preschool monday to friday next week. That is, tomorrow to friday. I said yes, of course. The four weeks I was there before didn't go so bad...

And I am so annoyed at the internet. This is the second day I've had internet after nine days of not being able to connect to my home wifi network. Figures...technology either seems to stop working or run away from me after a while... (my mp3 player has been missing for months)

Snowstorm

In case anyone's wondering, that snowstorm that hit the east coast left about 2 feet of snow in my area. It also knocked out the power from Friday night to Sunday night. And then I worked both Sunday and yesterday, so I didn't have much of a chance to go online anyway.

The roads on Sunday were very scary when driving. I hate that feeling that the car is slipping and you can't control it. Yesterday, at least, the roads were a little better! I stuck to the highways, and those were clear.

Some of the snow is melting by now, but a glance in the backyard shows that there's still plenty left!

Happy Birthday James Dean

If James Dean were alive today, he'd be 82 years old. Strange to think that he died fifty eight years ago, and people like me still remember him and watch his movies. And I put another poster of James Dean up on my bedroom wall. :P

Videogames and other things

My brother...uh, what did I say his fake name for this blog was...? Oh, "Ido". The one that's 19. He owns the game Assassins Creed III. And my 18 year old brother, "Yoi" (Where the heck did I come up with these names??? ) has an xbox that is currently downstairs. He said I could use his xbox, and Ido said I could use his game. So I started playing today. I got stuck near the beginning, of course. I pressed every button and combination of buttons that I could think of, but nothing worked. So I called Ido, who is currently at school. He had no idea what I should do to get past that part in the game.  Then I tried calling Yoi, who said that he had heard of others having this problem. But he didn't really know how to get past it either. It was ten year old "Dori" who was watching me play, that suggested what I could do. And it worked! Go figure. ^_^

In other news, although I have finished three weeks of working at the preschool, I have one more left--they asked me to come back all this week. Of course I said yes, since that means five days of guaranteed work over five days of "maybe I might get called". Which reminds me...I still need to finish my application to Michaels. I figured that I could try to get hired to work there part time, after school hours.

I'm practicing Japanese by translating a comic book. It's a comic book that I wouldn't have ever read if I wasn't so determined to translate it. See, I know just enough Japanese that reading is frustrating. I get most of it, and some phrases and words automatically translate in my head, but then there is also a lot that I don't know at all!

Passwords

I really need to start writing down all these passwords. Practically every site seems to need them now...and I tend to do variations on the same couple of words. Problem is, sometimes I can't remember what variation I used for that particular site. For a while, there was even one site where I had to reset the password every single time I wanted to log on!

In other news, I've now done two weeks of subbing for the preschool. I can't remember if I've said this before or not, but while preschool kids are cute, they aren't the age group I want to work with forever. Elemenary or middle school level would be better, I think...

Scarf

The rate this scarf is going, it's going to take forever to finish...at least I figured out how to switch colors successfully...

I'm still subbing at the preschool...they told me that they want me to come until Feb. 1. Three weeks of 7 hour days...they don't pay much, unfortunately. I've been told to try seeing if I can sub for other school systems that might pay more. I'm debating it. It might be a good idea, but at the same time, I don't want to. So...maybe.

A week of subbing

So this was a short first week of subbing at the local preschool because tomorrow is a teacher's inservice day. The kids are cute, and I don't mind substituting at that school, but that is definitely not the age group I want to work with forever. My goal is still to get back to Japan, and until then, get a teaching certificate so that I can teach spanish. Two more weeks of subbing at the preschool...we'll see how it goes. ^_^

Scarf

Have I mentioned that I've been watching Doctor Who? I watched all of the old episodes, and now am watching the current old ones (from 2005 on) with my friend.

Today I found a pattern for the Doctor Who scarf worn by the fourth doctor, Tom Baker. I hadn't realized that there were so many variations of it! I picked to do the original, of course... I also found a bar to keep track of my progress in making it! How cool is that?

Substitute Teaching

Posted by [email protected] on January 10, 2013 at 11:40 PM Comments comments (1)

So I got on the list to substitute teach at the local schools. I already got a call! For the next couple of weeks, I'm going to be a substitute at one of the local preschools. :P

My eventual goal is still to go back to Japan, and teach English there, but until then, I plan to get my teaching license, or whatever it is, in Spanish so that I can teach in Massachusetts. But until I have enough money to take that test, I'll be substitute teaching. And still cashiering on weekends. ^_^

Would James Dean like Get Smart?

Posted by [email protected] on January 5, 2013 at 6:35 PM Comments comments (3)

I was watching Get Smart today, and noticed that the show originally started airing in the 1960s, which was after James Dean had died, since he died in 1955. And it occurred to me to wonder...would James Dean have liked the show Get Smart? It's funny.

Anyway, Happy New Year everyone! It's 2013...wow. Time goes so fast...I can still remember being in high school, never mind now being out of college! It is such a weird thought.
